Reclusive Dialects

The following artworks were made between 2008 and 2009. The works are made from wood and with architect pen drawn onto the cutout shapes which were fixed on a painted wooden background. I used discarded pieces of wood left over from other projects. I cut the shapes by hand with a fret saw. The photos show the works unframed.

The artworks are supposed to present simultaneous static and growing or organic images. I first had the idea when I was in Egypt snorkeling on the coral reefs at the red sea. I have tried to give the works the look of coral reefs as I remember them from my experiences. The works are completely abstract with differing patterns drawn onto the shapes. I have attempted to create a harmony in the placement of the shapes. The artworks do not have a specific direction up or down, in fact they can be viewed any way the viewer wants to.
